TEA’s BIBLE

🗺️ Origins & cultivars

Cultivar

A selected and bred line of tea plant. Same region, different cultivar, different cup.

A cultivar is a tea plant line selected and bred for a purpose. Same origin and same processing, but a different cultivar means different aroma and astringency.

In Japan, cultivars such as Benifuki and Benihomare were bred for black tea. Taiwan Tea No. 18 (Ruby) is an example of a cultivar name becoming the name of the tea itself.
