From OpenStreetMap

Based on volunteer-edited map data. No descriptions, and some shops may have closed or changed names. Best used to see how tea shops cluster in a region, or as a starting point for your own search.

The “Origins & tea estates” layer mixes 47 estates written up by our editors with 322 estates and factories imported from map data. The ones with a description are ours.

What is deliberately left out

The following are excluded on purpose, to keep this a map for finding tea shops.

  • Shops in Bangladesh, Pakistan and Nepal — the underlying map data mostly points at street chai stalls that cannot be identified as shops.
  • Retail shops in India and Sri Lanka — many are eateries or general stores, so only tea estates and factories are included.
  • Large bubble tea chains outside Japan — they would crowd out tea specialists. Japanese bubble tea shops have their own layer.
  • Teavana — all stores closed in 2018, but stale entries remained in the source data and were removed.
  • Coffee chains, kombucha bars and similar — tagged as tea shops in the source data but selling something else.
