Leaf grade

The letters on a packet of tea — OP, BOP and so on — describe the size and shape of the leaf and how much bud it contains. They follow local convention rather than any international standard.

The key point is that a grade is not a quality ranking. It is more useful to read it as brewing behaviour: large leaf gives up its aroma slowly, fine leaf brews strong quickly.
